Australia and India have a long history of collaboration in various fields, including research and development. To further strengthen this partnership, the Australian and Indian governments have established the Australia India Research Collaboration Grants.
These grants aim to support collaborative research projects between Australian and Indian researchers across a wide range of disciplines. The grants provide funding for joint research projects, workshops, exchange programs, and other activities that promote collaboration between the two countries.
The Australia India Research Collaboration Grants are open to researchers from both countries, including academics, scientists, and industry professionals. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with preference given to projects that have the potential to deliver significant outcomes and impact in areas of mutual interest.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Australia India Research Collaboration Grants, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be affiliated with a recognized research institution or organization in either Australia or India.
- Demonstrate a track record of research excellence and productivity.
- Have a clear plan for collaboration and engagement with researchers from the other country.
Application Process
The application process for the Australia India Research Collaboration Grants involves the following steps:
- Submission of an expression of interest (EOI) outlining the proposed research project and collaboration plan.
- Shortlisting of EOIs based on their alignment with the grant objectives and selection criteria.
- Invitation to shortlisted applicants to submit a full research proposal.
- Evaluation of full research proposals by a panel of experts.
- Announcement of successful grant recipients.
Grant Funding
The Australia India Research Collaboration Grants provide funding for a variety of research-related activities, including:
- Research project costs, such as salaries, equipment, and materials.
- Travel and accommodation expenses for collaborative activities, such as workshops and conferences.
- Exchange programs and scholarships for researchers to visit and work in the partner country.
The grants have been awarded across four priority areas of mutual importance between Australia and India: food and water security, the future of healthcare, environmental change and energy frontiers, and digital humanities and intelligent futures.

The grants are administered by the Australia India Institute and funded by the Australian Government Department of Education. Grant activities will be completed by 8 December 2023.
