The British Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new grant program that aims to foster collaboration between industry and academia. With the goal of driving innovation and promoting knowledge exchange, the grants will provide financial support to projects that bring together researchers and industry professionals.

The announcement was made at the India-UK Higher Education Conference in Delhi today, September 20, organised as part of the largest-ever delegation of the UK’s education sector to India and representatives from India’s education sector.

Through this initiative, the British Council aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that research findings are translated into practical applications. By facilitating partnerships between the two sectors, the grants will promote the transfer of knowledge, skills, and expertise, ultimately leading to the development of innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

The grants are open to collaborations in various fields, including but not limited to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), social sciences, arts, and humanities. The British Council particularly encourages projects that address global challenges, such as sustainability, climate change, healthcare, and education.

In addition to financial support, the British Council will also offer networking and mentoring opportunities to the grant recipients. This will allow them to connect with other researchers, industry leaders, and relevant stakeholders, further enhancing the impact and reach of their project.

British Council coordinated with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) to bring together representatives from 31 UK higher education institutions, including British Universities International Liaison Association (BUILA), Universities UK International (UUKi), the Department for Education (DfE UK) and Pearson to explore partnership opportunities in transnational education and internationalisation with various Indian universities as well as government bodies, including the University Grants Commission (UGC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
