The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is about to open a data science and artificial intelligence school. Sunil Wadhwani has endowed the institute with ₹ 110 Crore, which will go towards establishing the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI. Mr. Wadhwani is a well-known IIT Madras alumni and the co-founder of Mastech Digital and IGATE.
In front of teachers, students, alumni, and researchers, Mr. Wadhwani and Professor V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, inked an agreement on this matter.
The goal of the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI is to provide policymakers and the government with advice on topics pertaining to data science and AI. The programme will start accepting applications in July 2024.
Professor V Kamakoti, head of IIT Madras, emphasised the necessity of such a school, saying that “a school for data science and AI is critical with the advent of Industry 4.0, wherein AI and data science are the main movers.” This highly multidisciplinary school was established by IIT Madras, where professors from several disciplines collaborate to study on specialised fields, such as Responsible AI.”
Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI will offer the following courses:
- BTech programme in AI and Data Analytics
- MTech programme in Data Science and AI
- MS and PhD Programmes in Data Science and AI
- Joint MSc in Data Science and AI with the University of Birmingham, UK
- International Interdisciplinary Masters Programme in Data Science
- Interdisciplinary Dual Degree in Data Science
- Web-enabled MTech in Industrial AI
